Bibby Marine selects new yard for electric CSOV newbuild

UK shipowner Bibby Marine has found a new shipbuilder in Spain for its electric commissioning service operation vessel (eCSOV).

The contract for the innovative eCSOV has been moved from Gondan Shipbuilders to shipyard Armon after the project timelines were unable to be fulfilled, the company told Splash.

The original deal revealed last May was supposed to see the vessel built at Gondan’s Asturias for delivery in 2026. The newbuilding project will now move forward at Armon, with delivery scheduled in 2027.

Announced at the time as the world’s first truly zero-emission eCSOV, the newbuild will have the capability to operate solely on battery power for a typical full day of operations and sport dual-fuel methanol engines.

“We are thrilled to be working alongside our new partners, Armon, and move to the next stage of our project. The delivery of this vessel will bring our clean vision to life, confident it will mean significant advancements to our industry,” said Nigel Quinn, chief executive at Bibby Marine.
