Mexico’s port of Manzanillo will go through a massive $3.15bn expansion through to 2030, making it the largest port in Latin America, nearly tripling container capacity to 10m teu.
President Claudia Sheinbaum will tour the site on Saturday to launch construction.

Last year, Mexico overtook China as America’s top trade partner, according to data from the US Commerce Department.
“In a purely hypothetical scenario, if this growth rate continues, by the year 2031 there will be more containers imported from China into Mexico than the US west coast,” Xeneta’s research head Peter Sand said earlier this year.
