Crew abandon ship in the Red Sea

The crew of the Isa Star general cargo ship were forced to evacuate ship yesterday after a fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room.

The ship was close to Yemen in the Red Sea when the fire broke out, but initial reports suggest this was an engine room fire followed by flooding, not an attack by the Houthis.

European Union naval forces in the region were able to rescue the crew and take them to Djibouti.

The Panama-flagged Isa Star is operated and managed by UAE-based Azimuth Ship Management.
